Writing Statement:

Writing is a time for everyone to feel included. Writers should be encouraged to be themselves and to share things about themselves, about things that have happened to them, and about things that are special to them. I think writing is crucial and important for all age groups of students, but especially in the early elementary years. It is hard to set aside time in the elementary classroom to write every day, especially with younger students who are still learning how to express their words into written language. Students should feel like they can share what is on their minds without being penalized for incorrect grammar or spelling. The writing time is a time to share and is a time of encouragement and enrichment.
